Racer Profile: Stella “Stell” Harvey

The Young Racer Who Finds Peace in the Fast Lane

When most people think of racing, they picture the roar of engines and the thrill of competition. For 14-year-old Stella Harvey, known as “Stell” to those closest to her, racing is much more than that. It’s where she finds clarity, focus, and a sense of peace that nothing else can offer.

Stella’s involvement in motorsport wasn’t by chance. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the racing world—her father and brother both active racers—it was only a matter of time before she joined the scene. “When my brother started doing track days at 14, I was always there, and it wasn’t long before I was karting myself,” she recalls. But unlike many who might be drawn to the sport for fame or accolades, Stella’s motivation was much more personal. “I love how racing is so different from everything else, and it’s my quiet place in the world.”

While the idea of racing may seem daunting to some, Stella approaches it with a calmness that speaks to her deep connection to the sport. She races in Hyundai Excels and also competes in rental karting. Her recent venture into racing her own Hyundai Excel is a big leap, but one that marks her growing confidence in a sport she’s passionate about. “The racing itself isn’t complicated, but the journey to get there has definitely been an adventure,” she says with a reflective smile.

Over the past few years, Stella has learned to overcome both the physical and mental hurdles of racing. After a devastating crash that left her with a shattered hand, she knew the stakes had changed. “The scariest moment was when I ended up under a barrier after that crash,” she admits. “But getting back on track, despite the pain and nerves, was one of the most empowering things I’ve done.” It wasn’t just a physical recovery—it was a triumph of willpower and determination.

In addition to racing, Stella is an integral part of her father and brother’s pit crew. While she initially got involved out of necessity, it quickly became something she took pride in. “I do things like adjust tire pressures and make sure everything is clean and ready to go,” she explains. “I didn’t expect to be so involved, but now, I can’t imagine not being part of the team.”

Stella’s ultimate dream isn’t just about winning races or becoming a famous driver. “I want to be a role model for young girls in motorsport,” she says. “If I can inspire someone to push past their doubts and follow their passion, that would mean the world to me.” Her advice for others who want to follow in her footsteps? “Don’t let negative comments stop you. Everything is possible, and passion will get you where you want to go. Just push through the nerves.”

Stella is quick to acknowledge those who have helped her along the way, from her coaches Lachlan Norton and Jayden Hamilton to her dad, who’s been her mentor from day one. “I’m really lucky to have such a strong support system behind me,” she says. “But it’s also about learning to believe in yourself.”

While she may still be early in her racing career, Stella Harvey is already demonstrating that her journey will be defined not by the accolades she earns, but by the personal growth and resilience she shows, both on and off the track. For her, racing isn’t just a sport—it’s a path to self-discovery and the opportunity to pave the way for others.
