Revitalisation of Girls Torque Motorsport
In the wake of the passing of Girls Torque Motorsport founder Sue Corbett, the organisation is poised for a period of revitalisation. Bridget Bell has assumed the driver’s seat, dedicated to breathing new life into Girls Torque and restoring it to the vibrant community and support hub it once was.
Bridget is eager to build upon the 23-year history of Girls Torque and continue Sue’s legacy.
“I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility and privilege,” she shares. “I am truly humbled to have the opportunity to build upon Sue and the team’s dedicated efforts over the past two decades, and I look forward to welcoming new collaborations to rejuvenate Girls Torque. I am committed to further developing the Girls Torque peer-to-peer mentoring, structured learning, and supportive community already established nationally.”
Bridget emphasises that this transformation will take time and acknowledges the ongoing support and guidance of Andy and Leonie.
Andy, who has worked behind the scenes with Sue for many years, will assist Bridget with the transition. Additionally, co-founder of Girls Torque, Leonie, will support Bridget in upholding the traditions, values, and history of Girls Torque, continuing in the spirit that has guided the organisation for the last 23 years. Girls Torque will also invite members to step forward and contribute their local area knowledge and motoring expertise, enabling Girls Torque to collaborate fully across all regions, generations, and motorsport disciplines.
Despite the changes, Bridget is committed to staying true to the original mission of Girls Torque. She plans to introduce new and innovative ideas, as well as reintroduce past activities, to support the new generations of women entering motorsport and ensure that Sue Corbett’s legacy endures.
Bridget is no stranger to the motorsport world, boasting over a decade of experience in On-Air Hosting, Event Hosting, Television Presenting, and Commentating. She is best known as the current start-line presenter for the National Drag Racing Championship on 7+ this season for the Perth Motorplex. Bridget is also passionate about supporting women in the industry and motorsport, volunteering as a mentor to women in motorsport media and actively championing female representation. She dedicates her time to writing a column titled “Flash-Femmes” on BehindtheSport.net, aiming to enhance the visibility of women in grassroots motorsport and the automotive industry.
With a background as a skilled mechanic, Bridget was honoured with TAFE WA’s Light Vehicle Apprentice of the Year consecutively in 2018 and 2019. Currently, Bridget has shifted her focus to the realm of specialist hydraulic applications following her completion of Certificate III in Mobile Plant (Heavy Duty Diesel) in 2022, specialising in construction, agricultural, mining, and plant hydraulics.
As we welcome Bridget as the new operations manager of Girls Torque, many will be asking, “Who is Bridget Bell?”. She is a seasoned professional with a passion for motorsport and a commitment to supporting women in the industry, making her the perfect candidate to guide Girls Torque into its next chapter.
Myrtle is Girls Torque’s mascot who loves to go and visit motorsport people and events, and also write stories about the seriously great ladies out there doing great stuff in this sport. Some work, some volunteer, some race, some show and some build.
