Rachel “Pocket Rocket” Wilkins

From Street Bike to Drag Racing Stardom

Meet Rachel Wilkins, better known in the drag racing world as “Pocket Rocket.” With over 15 years of experience, Rachel’s journey into the high-octane world of drag racing began with a simple yet exhilarating decision: taking her 250cc road bike to an all-bike event at Palmyra. That first taste of speed and adrenaline ignited a passion that has fueled her ever since.

A Passionate Community and Personal Goals

For Rachel, drag racing is more than just a sport; it’s about being part of a passionate community that supports and drives each other to achieve personal goals. The thrill of setting her own objectives and pushing her limits keeps her coming back to the track, ready to conquer new challenges. And conquer she has, traveling across Australia to participate in races whenever the opportunity arises.

Dreaming Big: Pro Stock Motorcycle

Rachel’s ultimate dream is to race in the Pro Stock Motorcycle category, and she’s well on her way to making that a reality. With the licensing process set to begin later this year, she’s gearing up for the next big step in her racing career. It’s a journey marked by incredible achievements, including setting two Australian records that still stand today.

Racing Highlights and a Growing Collection of Bikes

Rachel’s racing career is filled with highlights, from winning multiple trophies to securing a gold Christmas tree and a nostalgia championship. She currently races in the Extreme Bike class, but her collection of bikes is as diverse as her racing resume. From an early Suzuki Gsx1100 nostalgia bike to a Suzuki Hayabusa Extreme bike, and a Suzuki big tyre bike for Pro Stock Motorcycle, Rachel’s garage is a testament to her dedication and love for the sport.

The Challenge and Appeal of Drag Racing

Drag racing may seem straightforward—two racers side by side, sprinting down a 1/4 mile track—but Rachel knows that it’s anything but simple. With factors like handicap times, reaction times, and traction coming into play, the challenge is as mental as it is physical. It’s no wonder that drag racing has seen a surge in popularity among women, as it’s one of the few motorsports where everyone competes on a level playing field. Anyone can get involved, starting with a street car or bike and progressing to higher levels of competition.

Achievements and Recognition

Rachel’s list of accolades is impressive: two Australian records, a gold Christmas tree, a nostalgia championship, and a 5th overall finish in the 21-23 400 Thunder season. But beyond the trophies and titles, Rachel values the relationships she’s built in the racing community. Her workmates and friends, many of whom she met through drag racing, are her biggest supporters.

Support System and Words of Wisdom

Rachel’s success wouldn’t be possible without her incredible support system. Her partner Simon serves as crew chief, mechanic, and bike transporter, while crew members Jim, David, and Trevor are always by her side. And for those looking to follow in her footsteps, Rachel offers this advice:

“The harder you work, the luckier you’ll get. Reach for the stars.”

With sponsors like Penrite Oils, Inox Lubricants, Professionals Real Estate Mackay, Coalfields Tyre and Mechanical Moranbah, Bullet Bikes Mackay, and Marchant Signs behind her, Rachel “Pocket Rocket” Wilkins is ready to keep making her mark on the drag racing world.
