Six years ago, Jill’s husband gave her a little red Toyota Corolla and said: “give Khana Cross a try” … but the chicanes and the lack of speed really didn’t impress her, so instead she signed up for the next Hillclimb. “I absolutely loved it,” Jill tells us, noting that she has not missed a single Hillclimb in the last 5 years, and has aspirations of joining the 2 litre sports sedan club to do sprints in her new car.

I love the adrenaline rush … the thrill of being on the track is indescribable.

Jill manages to compete at least every 5 or 6 weeks in either her Toyota KE20 or the Commodore (as she sold the Toyota Corolla after winning 5 championships with it) with her hubby alongside as mechanic/pit crew and her family and friends proudly cheering her on from the sidelines. The Toyota KE20 is now sporting a fully rebuilt engine, which Jill is very proud to have assisted in, proving she’s equally happy getting her hands dirty and learning a lot about the mechanical side of racing as she is behind the wheel winning championships.

Hillclimb has 1 car at a time on the track with no warm up. Basically, you just do one quick lap around the track as fast as you can, recording your time to be compared against other cars of a similar class, while in Sprint you’re racing on the track with all the other cars in your class at the same time. Although Jill says sometimes it isn’t as easy as it sounds, as when racing at East Sale Sprint, she didn’t break in time for the chicane and spun around doing 130k’s, in time to see her competitors scattering around to avoid her.

Just have fun.
